This is a document issued by the Director of Immigration Services, under the provisions of section 40 of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011, to enable foreign national (s) enter Kenya and engage in trade, prospecting, farming, business, professional employment, missionary activities or even reside in Kenya.

A dependent pass is issued to a spouse, parent or guardian of a foreign national who is lawfully allowed to enter for work purposes or other purposes. The validity of the dependent pass is granted at the discretion of the immigration officer and is often tied to the validity of the main applicant’s permit or pass.

Special passes are issued to individuals who would like to conduct any business, trade, or profession or those wishing to apply for another permit in-country. This visa may be granted for up to 90 days.

This applies to those who have held Kenya a work permit for at least seven years and have been residing in the country continuously for the last three years can apply for permanent residence (PR). It is possible for the main applicant's spouse and children to also gain PR at the same time.
